This 18x24 oil painting is on a deep 1.5-inch canvas. The scene has been continued around the sides to add to the 3-d effect of this piece. When painting old houses, it is pleasing to let the mind create stories of the people who lived in these places long ago. What made them leave ? Did a large family dwindle and there was no-one left to stay to care for this aging home? Were they farmers, and the land could not support them? Each dwelling has its’ own story, but as an artist, I don’t know what that story is, however, I can invent my own as you can too. I loved how the old birch tree seemed to be protecting the house from the wind and elements, as it bent towards the house. It knows the story behind it, and I believe the house was well loved before it was abandoned. The hardware is in place so it is ready to hang right away.
