Laine Longton
Born and raised in Victoria, BC, Laine Longton is a primarily self-taught visual artist. She studied visual art at Reynolds Secondary School under the direction of the art teacher Mr. Paul Jung. She quickly came to love oil paints and continued to explore the textures and colours which arise from thick paints. Laine’s works are heavily influenced by the Abstract Expressionist movement of the 1940s and 1950s in the United States. She is inspired by artists Mark Rothko and Gerhardt Richter for their use of colour, composition, technique, and their visceral qualities. Laine is also a professional cellist who teaches and performs throughout British Columbia.
