For many years, I could only imagine what the ultimate career would be - the answer was obvious - an artist of course! A childhood, growing up at Long Beach, Vancouver Island, a more inspiring area of this planet I have not discovered, and the impact of that environment on those formative years was immeasurable. In the intervening years, I have built six houses, raised two daughters, run a couple of businesses, worked with textiles, quilting, decorating, jewelry making, beach glass, Victorian lampshades, garden design and painting. Until very recently, I hadn’t truly considered myself an artist. Hadn’t considered the process of actually showing my work or the possibility that anyone would be interested in taking it home just because they appreciated it. Not until I became involved with a local studio tour, did it occur to me that my art pieces might appeal to a particular audience and they might want to hang it on their walls. It has always been about loving the process of the art form, living with it, dreaming about it, accumulating the materials and producing it. And at some point, one must stand back, take a good objective look at this pile of art and start, one way or another to dole it out. So it’s not until I’m almost 70 years old that I can say, without hesitation that, yes, I am an artist! My artwork brings people joy, and I’m happiest when I’m in the process of creating! My current works are produced on cotton canvas, using acrylic paints and a flow medium. My tools include a hair dryer, paper towels, paper cups, plastic wrap, a lazy susan and balloons! Every piece is unique. I will not, as I cannot produce the same piece twice. My desire is that my work brings as much joy to the collector, as it has brought to me in the process.
