Enso on Black Canvas (16/20…. Acrylic) Everyone knows the circle as a round-plane- figure whose circumference is equidistant from a fixed point, the centre, all round! And is the circle not the symbol of oneness, wholeness, unity, perfection, infinity et al.? As such we appreciate its ‘purnata’ *fullness, beauty and charm. And what of the Enso, one may ask, the Zen circular hand-drawn form , known for itsaesthetics as per ‘form and content’? And we-specifically the artist at hand, Rishika R.Devi- says, reflect on the transformative experience of simultaneous the full and the empty, the in and the out, ubiquitous shining bright like the moon of enlightenment! As for the onlooker, a similar artistically shared experience is at hand. As the Enso is drawn generally in one fell swoop, a one- breath painting so said, the immediacy of the design is acute, for both parties, the artist and auditor-connoisseur. As the execution of the Enso takes but a ‘split moment’ so to say, the astonishment as to the aesthetic event is acute and may and of permanent enticement. Indeed, the the inking of the brush, the imprint of it and its various turns and pressures, results in an amazing configuration as to time ( the one- be breath -stroke) and place -the canvas and space invoked. Thus here-in place- we celebrate the unification of opposites! Thus we celebrate one sacred phase! Rishika says, the ‘Recognized’ Place! • Purnata, Sanskrit, fullness 16"x20"x3/4" on Black Stretched Canvas, Acrylic Paint, Created On February 1st, 2025 |
