Vicki Lynn Rae

Visual Arts

Vicki Lynn Rae was born in 1982 in Vancouver, BC, Canada and currently resides and works in her studio loft in New Westminster, BC.. She works in Acrylic paint on canvas.

In 2001 Vicki received formal training at the Lorenzo de Medici Art Institute in Florence, Italy. 3 years later she was accepted into the IDEA design program at Capilano University and ultimately pursued her painting career through self directed study and experimentation.

Honouring her Native Canadian and South African roots, Vicki has explored various themes such as African and North American wildlife and landscape subjects as well as dance, spirituality and psychology. In addition to her Safari and Canada Wild Series, Vicki explores deeper themes of addiction and recovery in her Underworld, Recovery and Rising series, and raw self reflections and analysis in her candid Eros Series.

Along her journey Vicki has taken inspiration from many Artists past and present. Notably the surreal and dreamy qualities of Dali’s work and how art can transcend dimensions, the strength of self portraiture of Frida Khalo and how the act of reflecting oneself through painting can carry one through painful and uncertain times, the perseverance and all consuming passion and dedication of Van Gogh, the nonsensical juxtapositions and wit in the works of Magritte, the depth of spiritual meaning in living visionary Artist Alex Grey’s work and how painting can serve as a space of worship and meditation to heal ones soul and Ojibwe Woodland Artist Norval Morrisseau and the power of simplicity, colour and black line, the list can certainly go on…

Vicki's body of work honours and embraces the light and the shadow, and en masse, is a captivating visual journal of her life and experiences. Supplementing her private practice and studies, Vicki accepts commissions, participates in live art shows, auction fundraisers and local exhibits.

“Employing intuition as a guide and raw emotion as fuel, I give all of myself to my Art. I engage with each piece, as if in a dance. Allowing the painting to lead me I aim to reveal it's unique energy, it's voice and the story it has to tell.”
